Kitchen Renovations in Vancouver

Kitchen renovations in Vancouver where the tile carries the room: backsplashes in handmade ceramic and stone, porcelain floors that survive a working kitchen, and the sequencing that keeps cabinets, counters and tile out of each other's way. We can run the full renovation or come in as the tile contractor on a larger build.

Homes we work in around Vancouver

Vancouver runs from 1910s character homes on the west side to glass towers downtown, with a century of housing in between, and the tile work changes with every decade of construction.

Character homes in Kitsilano, Mount Pleasant and Dunbar, along with the 1960s and 70s Vancouver Specials across the east side, often have kitchens on their second or third layout, with floors that step between rooms and walls that were never flat. We level and flatten before setting, plan the floor tile so transitions land cleanly at doorways, and cut the backsplash around outlets and the hood so the layout reads as intentional rather than improvised.

In new builds along the Cambie Corridor, laneway houses, and the rebuilt lots in Dunbar and Kerrisdale, kitchens open onto the living space, which means the floor tile has to run continuous across long sightlines without lippage. Large-format porcelain and slab-look backsplashes are the common choices, and both reward the flatness work we do before setting.

Kitchens in the downtown and Yaletown towers and the older wood-frame condos in Kitsilano and Fairview are compact and the logistics are tight. We schedule around strata rules, protect the hallways and elevators, and keep the dust contained. A backsplash and floor in a condo kitchen is usually a few days of work once the cabinets and counters are in.

FAQ

Common questions in Vancouver.

When does the tile go in during a kitchen renovation?

Floors usually go down before the cabinets, so the cabinets sit on finished tile and the floor runs under the toe kicks. The backsplash goes on after the counters are set, so the tile meets the stone with one clean joint. We build that sequence into the schedule with the other trades.

Can you match new floor tile to an existing floor in Vancouver?

Sometimes. If the original tile is still available we can extend it. More often the honest answer is a deliberate transition, or a full replacement so the kitchen and the rooms around it read as one floor. We'll tell you which one your kitchen actually needs.

Do you handle the cabinets and counters too?

We can run the full renovation and bring in the cabinet and counter trades, or we can work as the tile contractor alongside your designer or builder. Either way the tile is sequenced around everyone else's work, not squeezed in afterwards.
